Firefox, just got better, thanks to Hyperwords, a plug-in that allows you to you to interact with all the words on the web. Hyperwords is a very big idea about tools that make the web a lot more linky and contextual. I generally don't write about Firefox plugins, but Hyperwords is one that's gotten my attention. Like Om says, it's a must-have product to aid the browsing experience. Wow. This extension for Firefox is AWESOME! Hyperwords is a program that allows your cursor controller (mouse, trackpad, eraser-head thingie, rollerball, what-have-you) to become the ultimate reference resource. All you have to do is highlight what ever word or phrase you'd like to do something with and then BAM! you get a dropdown list of options -- google it? blog it? wiki it? Maybe you'd like to email something to someone, you can do that too. I've been testing the Hyperwords Firefox extension for the last couple of weeks via their private beta. I can say that it is a very useful tool that I've used a great deal. Hyperwords Goes Live. You can now download your own copy of Hyperwords. Well, looks like I have another extension to add to the favorites list. Just received my invite to Hyperwords today and have to say after a few test runs, I'm impressed. Installation was a breeze and after restarting Firefox, I was highlighting and searching any word on the page. This is what happens after installation. You highlight any word on the page and a context menu pops up with seven options. They are search, reference, shop, email, map, copy, and tags. The only one I am having a hard time figuring out is tags because no sub-menu pops up. The others are self-explanatory. This extension really shortens the amount of copying and pasting you have to do. No more copying of addresses for maps or zip codes for weather. You can easily look up what blogs have to say about your highlighted item through Tecnorati, IceRocket, or Clusty. Included in the reference menu is Wikipedia, CIA Factbook, IMDb, dictionary.com and share price. Check out their site for more info, but this is going to be a must have extension. I like it already. One of the reason being, it also includes Clusty as one of the search engines along with Google, Yahoo and Alexa(duh). It has the usual Web 2.0 blabby features- tagging, blogging and all that. And it has some 'more useful' features as well. It is going to be a truly addictive firefox extension. A 'thumbs up' from me. This morning I received my Hyperwords extension for Firefox. Hyperwords allows you to highlight any word on a web page then do a search for it, reference it, shop for it, map it, copy it, translate it or blog it. It's the best thing to happen to Firefox since Firefox. Make sure you up grade to Firefox 1.5 before you install Hyperwords If you do any kind of Internet writing or research, you'll want to try out Hyperwords, a Firefox plug-in (coming out for IE later this year). With Hyperwords, simply highlight a portion of text, and the Hyperwords pop-up allows you to search the web, news, blogs, photos, maps, tags and more. Google, Technorati, Amazon, Ice Rocket, del.icio.us, you can even easily translate text into or from English. One of the features I found quite useful was the email tool. Simply by highlighting a bit of text, Hyperwords will quote that AND put a referring link into an email - a great tool if you're sending something to a friend or client. Yesterday I came across a great plug-in for Firefox. It's called Hyperwords and what it does is it gives you freedom to interact with a web page beyond hyperlinks. They position it like this. A hyperlink is something you can click on that a web developer has decided to allow you to click - a hyperword allows you to click on any word you want. Today we can navigate the web through the routes others have chosen for us: through web-links. Hyperwords allow you to interact with all the words on the web. It's easy: With the Hyperwords Firefox plug-in installed, just select any text and a menu will automatically appear. You can search all the major search engines, look things up in reference sites, check dictionary definitions and much more. This allows the web to become more of a personalized experience. It also continues to demonstrate the beauty of what Firefox has set into motion by allowing people to freely develop extensions and plug-ins for their browser. Check out hyperwords here. I am one of the users previewing the new Hyperwords firefox extension and it rocks. It is after a long time that some new technology has caught my immediate attention, and this particular add-on for firefox will definitely change the way we search and look for information. The extension is very simple to use. After installing the xpi in firefox, select anyword on a page by highlighting it and automatically a hyperthread menu appears. You can select any of the options that range from search in Google, Yahoo, look for news, email, translate et al, besides a host of other interesting and useful links.
