After choosing commands through the menu for a while, you may decide to try the keyboard shortcuts. On Windows the characters are underlined. On the Mac they are not. In most cases though, they are the first letter of the word.

For example, to look something up in Wikipedia using the menu, you'd select 'References' then 'Wikipedia'.

If you were using keyboard shortcuts however, you'd just point to the text and enter 'R,W' for 'References' and then 'Wikipedia'.
