The Hyperwords Menu

To use Hyperwords select any word or group of words on any web page and point to the icon that appears. You can now choose from options in the Hyperwords Menu:

1) Select text:

sphere

2) Point to the small Hyperwords icon and the Hyperwords Menu appears:

menu

3) Click on a command and it's carried out immediately.

advanced: To be more efficient, don't mouse around the menu, but use the keyboard shortcuts. For example: 'r,w' for 'References/Wikipedia'.

more: You can decide if the menu comes up straight away when you select text, when you point to the icon and more, in Preferences, below.

tip: Or just hover instead of clicking on commands in References or Shops (and a few other places) to get your result in a window:

Editing

Sometimes less is more.

If there are any items you would like to turn off (or if you'd like to add more), click the three dots at the bottom of the Hyperwords Menu and the menu will expand to show bullets on the left of each item.

Black means ON and visible, white means OFF and hidden.

In this example all items are 'ON', apart from 'Page Info':

Adding Searches

Sometimes more is more.

Right-click (ctrl-click) inside the search box you would like to add and choose 'Add to Hyperwords'. You can then select where in the Hyperwords Menu you would like the search command added.

For example: You would like to add the search on www.superfacts.com so you go to the site, find their search box, then right-click (ctrl-click) inside the searchbox itself and choose 'Add to Hyperwords...':

You then get this dialog, where you can give the search a name, assign a keyboard shortcut if you like and specify what position in the menu it will have:

Preferences

You can change your Preferences by selecting 'Preferences' (at the bottom of the menu, with logo next to it).

The Preferences have three sections: 'General', Layout' and 'Other':

General

In the General section you can change when the menu appears. Your options are:

• Immediately when you 'select text'.
• When you select text and then 'point to icon' (default).
• 'Off' if you prefer to only use Hyperwords with the Search Toolbar.

If you need to get in touch you can click on the 'Support' button to email us and you can access this User Guide from clicking the 'User Guide' button.

You can also change the design of the Hyperwords Icon here as well.

Layout

In the Layout area you can turn items off and on as well as change settings for individual commands. To do this, click on the command and look at the settings which will then appear on the right hand side.

Further Preferences are found here.

Open Results gives you the option to have results open up in a new tab in the foreground or background - or a new window in the foreground or background.

URL's lets you specify whether you want to have just the web address or shortened web address used when copying and emailing.

Default Search determines what search engine is used when hitting 'enter' in the toolbar or hitting ‘enter’ when you have selected text on the page.

Position in right-click menu lets you specify where you want to have the menu appear in the right-click/ctrl-click menu.

Menu Spawn Options allows you to choose whether the menu should spawn only if you select text and hold down F2, Hit Enter or Shift-Esc.

Preferences can be backed up, loaded from backup or reset to factory default.

Link Preview lets you see what links point to when you hover over them. If this is on you need to hold down the 'ctrl' key when you point to a link to see what it points to. VERY useful.

Auto-Copy copies any selected text automatically when you select it, without you needing to manually copy it.

Table of Contents makes it possible to click on the left side of a web page to see a table of contents for that page. You can click on the headings to jump to them.

Email in Toolbar gives you a little button in your toolbar which you can click to open a new message in your email program with the page's URL.

Toolbar - (Not yet available for Hyperwords Chrome)

You can have Hyperwords in your Search Toolbar (top right in your browser window).
If you have Google (or any other search engine) as your default search, like this...

...you can click the little triangle on the left to get a list of options:

If you now choose 'Hyperwords' your Search Toolbar will look like this:

And you will now have access to all the Hyperwords features for all text - not only for text on a page. Copy and paste into the Hyperwords Toolbar or type anything that's on your mind and hit enter for the Hyperwords Menu.

tip: If you hit 'enter' twice it will give you a default search, just like you had before.
