Tips & Hints!

When you click on a reference you get the results in a small 'minibrowser':

results

To dismiss the minibrowser pane: click in the small 'x' on the right in the black bar or anywhere outside the frame.
To view the contents in a new tab click on the name or the round icon on the left in the black bar.
• 'Search' results are in a new tab since we expect you may want to follow the search results.
• You can change this in the Preferences (see below).

Customize

Click on the grey dots ... at the bottom of the menu to change the behavior of Hyperwords.

You can choose what icon/command is on the top menu by ctrl-cliking on the icon you want to have on the top level. For example, ctrl-click the Amazon icon in Search to make Amazon the top level icon for Search.

If you have Hyperwords to use Right-Click, choose 'Preferences' - you cannot edit the menu itself if you are in Right-Click mode.

The menu will then expand into Edit Mode (note, the commands are active in this mode so if you only want to use a command very rarely, you can use it directly in this mode without turning it on first):

Turn commands/services On by clicking the empty 'o' bullet or Off by clicking the filled bullet '•'.
• Change your preferences
by clicking 'Preferences'.
• To add almost any search
to Hyperwords, go to the search page you want to add then right/ctrl click inside the search window and choose 'Add To Hyperwords..."

Search Toolbar

You now have Hyperwords as your search system in your search bar. Enter text and click to access all the Hyperwords features.

If you hit 'enter' twice you will get a default search, just like you had before - usually Google.

TOP TIP: If you hit 'shift-enter' you will automatically be taken to the top search result.

If you don't want Hyperwords in your search, then click on the Hyperwords icon (the round dot) and choose the search engine you would prefer).

Share Buttons in Toolbar

Hyperwords provides three optional Share buttons which you can turn on by going to the 'View' menu in Firefox, then 'Toolbars' and finally 'Customize...' Here you can drag the icons to your toolbar). They are email, Facebook and Twitter.

buttons

If you want to remove these buttons go to the View menu, then Toolbars and finally Customize. Here you can drag them away.

Keyboard Phrases for Speed Users

Keyboard shortcuts let you type in what you want, without taking the time to mouse around. It's usually the first letter of the word/command name. Fx: 'rw' for References/Wikipedia.

Google Docs

You can choose to have Hyperwords On or Off in Google docs. To set, go the 'Preferences'.

Firefox / Chrome / Safari / Server

Most of what's described in this user guide applies to all of the Hyperwords Systems with the following main exception: Hyperwords Server cannot be edited by the user.
